Disability Action Steering Group and Teams

Multiple offices at Oregon State University are collaborating to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) new Title II digital accessibility rules. This effort has been named "Disability Action" to distinguish it form the ongoing, important accessibility and accommodations work that is done every day at OSU.

Steering Group

A steering group, which launched in spring 2024, includes representation from the following units:

Teams

The steering group launched teams in late 2024 and facilitates coordination among them. Teams have broad representation but were deliberately kept small in order to remain nimble. Teams will bring in other expertise and experience as needed and will reach out to the wider community to gather and share information. The teams and membership are:

  • Website and mobile: University Information and Technology (Lead), Disability Access Services, Ecampus, OSU-Cascades, College of Health, Division of Finance and Administration, Extension
  • Video and captioning: Ecampus (Lead), University Information and Technology, Enterprise Project Portfolio Management Office, Procurement, Disability Access Services
  • Instructional materials and documents: Academic Affairs (Lead), Disability Access Services, Ecampus, University Information and Technology, Libraries, Extension, University Human Resources
  • 3rd party and procurement: Procurement (Lead), Equal Opportunity and Access, Libraries, University Information and Technology, Ecampus, Disability Access Services, Academic Affairs

The teams are working on behalf of the entire university to:

  • Review and plan: Understand new ADA Title II web and mobile requirements. Inventory the current state of OSU digital content and contracts, identify the scope of issues and barriers that may exist, learn from peer and industry best practices, and develop recommendations and timelines for implementation.
  • Refresh: Clean house and archive digital content, and renew or revise contracts to reflect new requirements.
  • Remediate: Make remaining content accessible, and develop recommendations on remediation prioritization, including: who is responsible, what resources are needed, action steps, and timelines for implementation.
  • Renovate: Operationalize standards and develop corresponding new or updated procedures, practice, and guideline documents that align to and expand on the OSU Digital Accessibility Policy.
