Maintaining Momentum With Digital Accessibility

21 April 2026

Dear Colleagues,

The federal government has announced a one-year extension for meeting digital accessibility requirements under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The new deadline is April 26, 2027.

Oregon State is committed to maintaining momentum to make our digital environment fully accessible to people with disabilities as soon as possible. This work is central to our commitment to equitable outcomes and student success under Prosperity Widely Shared. We have made significant progress, and significant work remains. Please don’t pause your efforts. Keep up this important work. Deans have already been asked to develop college-level plans for reaching summer and fall digital accessibility milestones, and I extend that request to administrative units as well.

Resources are available on OSU’s Digital Accessibility website, and include prioritization strategies, guidance on alternatives to PDFs, and opportunities for personalized support. Members of the Disability Action Steering Group and Teams are available for collaboration, with additional resources coming soon from University Information Technology, the Center for Teaching and Learning, Disability Access Services, and Equal Opportunity and Access.

Over the remainder of this academic year and continuing into 2026-27, look for regular updates on digital accessibility, including new tools, trainings, resources, best practices and examples of successful implementation across the university.

Please re-commit to making steady progress toward digital accessibility — not just to meet a federal deadline, but to ensure that every member of the OSU community can fully access and benefit from our teaching, research and engagement.
