Accessible Use of Color in PowerPoint

How

The text color and background color, as well as the colors of any adjacent graphical elements (e.g. slices in a pie chart) need to meet certain contrast standards. If you are using OSU brand colors, you can refer to the Color Palette Accessibility Chart to see which combinations are acceptable. For other colors, you can use the contrast checker by WebAIM

Additionally, you must not use color alone to convey information. For example, differently colored regions of a map could also have the regions filled with a different texture, or important items in a list can be colored red and have an asterisk after them.

Verify

The Microsoft Accessibility Checker can sometimes point out text with contrast issues, though this is not always reliable.

To check that information is understandable without relying on color, you can view the presentation without color. To do this, switch to the “Accessibility” tab in the top ribbon, then click the “Inspect without Color” button. Click the same button again to bring back the color.
